This month’s post on resources and inspiration was inspired by the lyrics of the song Anthem by Leonard Cohen.
This reminded me of the beautiful story “The missing piece” about a broke sphere, from which a piece was missing. The story goes like this: it was missing a piece. And it was not happy. So it set off in search of its missing piece. I won’t tell you what it learns from this journey of searching and finding, but I’m sure you’ll enjoy discovering it yourself by watching the video 😉
For me, both the poem by Leonard Cohen and the story of the missing piece speak of the illusion that perfection means happiness. But it’s really what we label as “cracks” and “missing pieces” (or we were taught to see them that way) – meaning imperfections, defects, wounds, fears, things that need to be covered, fixed, beautified – are the the ones that define us, that make us unique, that make us whole, that makes us human, that makes us resonate with the world and the other human beings. That’s where “the light” – meaning our understanding, compassion, sensitivity, strength, but also the inspiration and creativity – comes.
There’s a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in
